Marshmallow Maths

A few weeks ago Room 20 were learning about Mass, Temperature & Volume but with a twist! We did it with marshmallows! We had experimented everything! 

Mass = How heavy something is 

Temperature = How long would it take for a marshmallow to melt in boiled water

Volume= How much can a container hold? 

Everyone had to choose between Mass, Temperature & Volume to make a presentation! Our group choose Mass. And this is our final evidence....

I beleive that you should have fun with maths every once in a while! Trust me it's soo fun!

Maths Olympiad | 2013

On the 28 of August it was the day Room 20 had all been waiting for...

It was the YEAR MATHS OLYMPIAD! It is like a reply race but maths kind.  Every class has 2 teams made up of 4 people. We all get 30 minutes to solve 20 questions.. And trust me they were hard.Our 2 teams had tackled all the maths we could possibly have and practised and practised hard! We even learnt the meanings of words like withdraw, overdraft, deposit.  Let me introduce you to the teams...There were:

Team 1 : Anahita, Lee, Hubert, Zhaoyu

My Team: Charlie, Me, Maddi & Louis

Our team wasn't the strongest but we didn't care, we ignored everyone even if we were getting beaten. We were the only ones with EVERYONE co-operation throughout the WHOLE half an hour as far as I saw... The first question was really easy but then on question 2 it got REALLY hard! I think that the teachers were being mean!  Time had passed quick we were still on our second question, at the time our team was just about to give up but then we went up to check the answer.. Guess what?! WE GOT IT! We were the 1 in 2 teams who had got it! That encouraged us to push ourselves. At one point our team was all in different directions! TIME IS UP! Although we didn't win and get our names engraved on the trophy we were sooo proud of ourselves I know Mrs Graham and Room 20 were too! And big shout out to Room 20 for cheering  and supporting us from the start :)

It was an amazing experience I enjoyed it alot it made me improve my co-operation skills, sharing each others ideas, not to shout at each other! I'd hope to do it again sometime :)

Making Graphs On Spreadsheets

This is my a spreadsheet I used to create my graph. I asked loads of questions (excluding the name) but then we thought that if we turn it into a graph then it would be a long long sentence and it would be a 'flat line' as our teacher would say it BORING!! So I stuck to 'one' question! I think it's an awesome way to collect data AND I got to learn more stuff like collecting data and using a spreadsheet to make a graph :D

Ridiculously Big Numbers!!!

WOW! I didn’t even know numbers have names for numbers that big! It was really fun finding out the numbers, it was sooo easy because my partner was typing and me and my other partner was writing down the numbers so it made it extra extra easier! Next time I could try doing the typing and I could try to use these numbers in maths to WOW the teachers!

Mixed Numbers

Above is my maths evidence for this term! I was learning about mixed numbers. I found it really easy because one of the skills you need to know is your basic facts and during this term I have worked really hard and I’m very proud of myself!!!

Mathletics Award

WOO HOO! 3rd place! I never knew that I had that much points! Going on Mathletics actually helped me learn lots of things, in class we have this leaderboard called 'Mathletes of the Week' Each day our teacher updates the scores and then people with the most points gets to be on the top 3! Having the leaderboard encouraged me to go on more so one day, SOON I can get first place!!!
